DISTRICT BUDGET
No. 63, Saanich. 2010/2011 Operating Budget:
The monetary situation is in CRITICAL CONDITION in our school district. Our children will be faced with more cut backs in their classrooms and schools in the upcoming school year and the next three years at least. Remember there are still more shortfalls and cuts projected for the next few years! ROMS will LOOK like, SOUND like and FEEL like LESS of everything our kids want and need in their school.
2010/2011 BUDGET
- Spring Break will only be ONE WEEK long.
- Cuts to Aministration and Overhead Areas $2,013, 574.00
So the Board has again limited the amount of cuts in the classroom and has made the cuts at the admin level instead, BUT next year there is little money left at the administrative level to cut.
- *Future shortfalls resulting from the chronic underfunding via the Per Pupil Funding Formula used by the government will only be felt in the classrooms in the next few years!
- *As proud parents of the Saanich school district, do we want the children at the elementary level now NOT to have the same quality of education when they reach secondary school as current secondary students.
- *Possibly in the future do you want supersized districts - merging Victoria, Saanich and Sooke into one to save administrative costs even though their administrative portion of the budget is only 10% or so. Staff and Instructional time makes up 85% of Saanich's budget.
- *Possibly in the future do you want staff from all three districts merged into one district and only allow BCTF's seniority procedures to dictate who works where. How will any younger staff bring in new ideas and passion to our schools.
- *Possibly in the future do you want supersized schools with elementary students bused to non-neighbourhood schools.
- *These are hypothetical right now, but are all possibilities.
